This was one of the very first pictures I took with my new Canon G1.  Sanderlings are one of many kinds of sea birds that can be found here.  Another view of the West Point lighthouse.  My only trip to the east coast involved a week long drive up the Maine coast, stopping at every lighthouse along the way.  One night, in need of a place to stay, I stumbled onto a mansion overlooking a river.  Built by a sea captain in the 1800's who would have used the old lights I'd seen to help his way along the rocky Maine coast, it was now a Bed and Breakfast.  With breakfast came the history of the house and the sea-dog who built it as told by the current owners.  Every light house has a history--storms, rescues, solitary hermits, and love stories.  Contained in every house is the adventure, danger and romance of earth meets water.
