Japanese Holly Fern, Cyrtomium falcatum.  Rosy Maidenhair, Adiantum hispidulum

FERN LORE:  Widely spread from east Asia to Hawaii and Africa, Cyrtomium falcatum is a beautiful fern easy to grow indoors.   Keep it wet and it will grow well.  If allowed to dry out, the fronds will remain green, but you may have to wait a month or more for it to start growing again.

Adiantum hispidulum's crosiers are pink, which gives it the common name Rosy Maidenhair.  Reports vary regarding its hardiness.

CULTIVATION:   C. falcatum responds well to fertilizers, and is sensitive to burning from too much sun.

Adiantum hispidulum has very similar needs.  It requires a shady aspect, and lots of water.

My father's Cyrtomium falcatum is over twenty years old and has developed a four inch trunk. This one, and the maidenhair with it, grew from spore in a nearby pot.  At this size, the pot is a bit too small for the holly fern.
